Deckchairs and Sunhats

Deckchairs and Sunhats. This is a picture with a story that dates back twenty years. The large grain effect and slightly strange tonality stems from the fact that the original image was taken on Kodak Infra-Red film. This was an extremely popular medium during the 1980s-90s but could be very difficult to use without fogging and the fact it had no set ASA/ISO rating. Nevertheless successful pictures often resulted in unique and wonderful images. This particular scene was very successful as a monochrome darkroom print until a national camera club judge savaged it which through the embarrassment caused led to me hiding it away for many years. However, with the advent of digital photography I revisited the image, realised I still loved it and re-invented it as a colour image. It has since become my favourite picture and is now featured on my business cards and is also my first postcard.
